Unfortunately, the ethernet jacks by the desk were dead. I located the DSL modem in the other half of the house, but it never got a DSL signal. It turns out that since nobody stayed in the house, they'd apparently disconected the phone lines.
Luckily the local cell phone system supported GPRS and SMS, so I had basic connectivity. Plus I had a few minutes in the IADC office at the end of the day between the time people left and the time the office actually got locked. I didn't need much, and what I had was enough.
