To get a kernel, you can compile it from source... After you modify the source so it's optimized to be as small as possible. How good are you at kernel C programming? You can also use your existing kernel... But it's probably too big and won't be able to do much without extra modules. Your best bet is to steal a kernel someone else made. I recommend stealing. Go to LinuxLinks.com and download a few of the single-floppy linux disk images they have. Mount the image and grab a copy of the kernel. Stand on the shoulders of giants.
